Trends in New Home Construction

< Back to Home Building Resources

Today we are seeing a shift in the way people look at new homes. A few years ago it was all about size, dramatic vaulted ceilings, massive fireplaces, and walls of windows. It was eerily reminiscent of the auto industry when 'bigger was better' and wise use of energy was less of a consideration. As a rule, larger homes cost less per square foot to build and were therefore thought to be a better value.

Today’s buyers are much more concerned with conserving earth’s resources as well as the real cost of their home – which only starts with the purchase price. Smaller homes cost more per square foot to build but cost less overall, and everything else costs less for smaller homes as well, including monthly mortgage payments, monthly utilities, insurance, taxes, even maintenance and repair costs. Smaller homes use fewer resources to build and maintain, plus they cost less to live in.

Contact Big Sky Builders to view some of the smaller, more efficient home plans we have recently introduced and enjoy the long term benefits that today’s smaller homes can provide.
